  • The Weekend Cometh

We are getting close to the best time of the week, clocking off time on a Friday, it’s been a very interesting day, again. So much better than the last job I was in. The first week has gone very well, and next week Thursday I’m off to Aberdeen to look at a site we building, the only drawback is that we are on the 07:00 in the morning so I have to be at the airport by 06:00 at the latest, that means leaving home at 04:00. I know I’m normally up early but that a little too early even for me.

I’m off swimming tonight, I have missed it for the last couple of weeks, but Caz wants to go again, I have been quite happy to go out on my bike. We have not been going because of her trips to the university open days, which have meant leaving early in the morning, but now they have finished we can get back into the swimming sessions. They do break up the routine of cycling all the time (even though I do enjoy cycling).

Saturday looks like another peaceful and relaxing day, once again we have nothing planned so it resting with my feet up and watch TV or reading

  • Off the Road

Lorries are to be banned from a county's country lanes in a bid to end the chaos caused by wayward satellite navigation units. Gloucestershire County Council is beginning a pilot scheme banning heavy goods vehicles from minor roads inside an area of 150 square miles. The move comes after a number of cases where lorries were diverted down routes which are too tight for trucks and then got stuck.

  • The Cats have Gone

  • Going to the Loo Could be Dangerous

  • Whats in Name

The R&B sensation we know as Beyonce has taken a leaf out of Prince's book and changed her name.

The former Destiny's Child frontwoman has christened herself "Sasha Fierce" for her new double album I Am ... Sasha Fierce, due for release in November.

In a statement, the singer said: "I have someone else that takes over when it's time for me to work and when I'm on stage, this alter ego that I've created that kind of protects me and who I really am.

"Sasha Fierce is the fun, more sensual, more aggressive, more outspoken side and more glamorous side that comes out when I'm working and when I'm on the stage."

Beyonce released her previous solo album, B'Day, to coincide with her 25th birthday in September 2006. It entered the US pop chart at No 1 along with the first single of the album, Irreplaceable.

I thought Beyonce was a weird name, it just gets worse

  • In the Dark

Nepal's former royals must pay unpaid bills of more than $1m within 15 days or power to their homes could be cut off, the state utility company says. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) says the former royals must pay arrears dating back several years for power to 22 palaces and bungalows.

It is a further blow to a family which ruled for centuries before the monarchy was abolished in May.

There was no immediate response from ex-King Gyanendra or his family.

  • End of the First Week

Well here we are again, Friday the best day of the working week and in our case a short day as well. This new company of mine is really quite sensible and finishes work at lunch on a Friday, just how good is that. Of course this is also the end of my first week here and it’s been very interesting, in fact I have more interest in one week then I had in 12 months in my last job.

But of course being the first week, it consisted of briefings, health and safety, introductions and lots of readings. But I even got around to doing some design and checking of previous designs for running projects.

The only thing is that I haven’t spent as much time on here as I was previously able, which is probably a good thing.
