I have just had a quick review of the news and it seems a mixed bag. Inflation has reached a 16 year high and stands at 5.2%. The sales of houses are at a 30 year low, with estate agents reporting that they are only selling a single house a week. The Government’s bill to extend the length of time terrorists can be held without trial was defeated in the House of Lords, but the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith stated that we need this legislation and will bring to the House an already drafted bill to allow suspects to be longer than six in an emergency.
The good news is that confidence seems to have returned to the stock markets, well for the moment anyway and shares rose by 6% this morning. Just a quick review of this morning’s news.
