  • My Advise

Am just packing up my stuff and getting ready to leave, the sun is shining and I want to get out and enjoy the rest of day, we won’t have many days like this and I want to make the best of while I have the chance. Ok it’s supposed to be a good weekend, but do you trust these weather forecasters to get it right. It very nice out there, so those who are able I advise to get and enjoy the sunshine, you never know when we will see it again.

  • Friday Afternoon

What a lovely day and here am I stuck in doors, I think I need to sort out my time management, and arrange my meetings out as nice country restaurant on days like, a nice meal somewhere and an early finish. Some hope, I not senior management just an engineer, we have meeting in some dingy office not anywhere nice.

I have just had to complete yet another security form for my new job; apparently they sent me the old form, so I have just had to complete one of the new ones. The girl I was speaking has only been working there a couple of weeks and is still a little unsure yet. She did apologise and offer me any help I needed. But it only took me about an hour to complete, scan and send back, no big deal really.

Only about hour left and I can disappear home for the day, the office is already beginning to empty, looking out of the window, you can see people walking in the car park with bags in hand, obviously on they way home.

  • Meeting Over

My meeting has just finished and it has just taken an hour and twenty minutes, fortunately it was a face to face meeting with the electrical designer just the two of us. Unlike many meeting with lots of people in attendance, between us we have achieved loads, solved loads of problems and discussed other points have still need to be addressed.

We have arranged another meeting at the same time next, I prefer these types of meeting, they are much more productive than the normal type, which are sometimes just an excuse to get out of the office for the day and have free coffee and chocolate biscuits. You might s well have them down the local pub on a Saturday for the amount of good they do?

  • Fusionman

A Swiss pilot's attempt to become the first person to fly solo across the English Channel using a single jet-propelled wing has been delayed. Yves Rossy attempt at the 22-mile (35.4 km) flight from Calais to Dover was postponed because of bad weather.

The former military pilot plans to attempt the crossing on Friday, which he hopes to complete in 12 minutes. The 49-year-old will fly on a plane to more than 8,200ft (2,500m), ignite jets on a wing on his back, and jump out.

Mr Rossy, who has had to postpone another previous attempt because of weather conditions, hopes to reach speeds of 125mph.

Known as "Fusionman," he aims to follow the route taken by French airman Louis Blériot 99 years ago when he became the first person to fly across the English Channel in a plane.

In an interview earlier this week, he said: "If I calculate everything right, I will land in Dover. But if I get it wrong, I take a bath." The stunt will be broadcast live for the National Geographic Channel. Its producer, Kathryn Liptrott, told the BBC Mr Rossy was fearless.

"When we've talked to him and asked him are you worried about risk his quote consistently is: I'm not worried about risk, I manage risk. "He flew Mirage fighters for the Swiss army, he now flies an Airbus. And in his sort of heart he's a pilot and a parachutist and what they do is manage risk. He won't fly if he doesn't think that he will arrive in Dover."

The longest flight he has taken so far lasted 10 minutes. The wing has no rudder or tail fin, so Mr Rossy will steer it using his head and back. As well as a helmet and parachute, he will wear a special suit to protect him from the four kerosene-burning turbines mounted just centimetres from him on the wing.

  • Blaine

NEW YORK (Reuters) - David Blaine's "Dive of Death" wasn't, after all -- the magician and showman ended up alive on Wednesday night after his 60-hour stunt of hanging upside down in Central Park.

Blaine, 35, had dangled from a cable attached to a large scaffold structure built high over the park's Wollman Rink since Monday, except for regular breaks for water and medical checks during which he was upright for periods of a few to several minutes each.

The spectacle ended during a nationally telecast two-hour television special which was filled out with taped footage of Blaine performing and interacting with fans across the country, and several "do not try this at home"-type disclaimers.

But Blaine had one more illusion for his fans. After ending his suspension, he plummeted some 44 feet (13.4 metres) from the top of the scaffold, swinging briefly from an attached cable. He then ascended and seemingly disappeared into the night sky high above the park.

    Blaine
said the hanging stunt got easier after the initial hours as his body adjusted, and he was strong enough to sign autographs, take pictures and even do card tricks while he was suspended.

The stunt was only the latest in a series of Blaine's public antics in New York. In November 2000 he spent 61 hours inside a block of ice in Times Square, and two years ago he lived for a week underwater in an acrylic sphere in front of Lincoln Centre. In 2002, he stood atop a 90-foot (27 metre) pillar erected behind the New York Public Library for 35 hours.

    Blaine
also lived for 44 days inside a transparent box suspended over the Thames River in London in fall 2003.

  • Guilt Ridden

BERLIN (Reuters) - A thief in Germany, plagued by guilt after robbing a kiosk, went back days later to deliver a note of apology and pay compensation to the victims.

Police said the business in Kamen, near the western town of Unna, was broken into Saturday night and looted of cigarettes and alcohol, suffering looses of about 4,300 euros.

Arriving for work Thursday, staff were surprised to find an envelope stuffed with 400 euros (317 pounds) and a note which read "sorry -- to make up for Saturday night!."

I used to live close to Unna, back in the 1980’s.

  • He Felt the Need for Speed

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Transport authorities in Brazil have caught up with a speed-loving Brazilian driver who clocked up nearly $2 million (1.1 million pounds) in fines, local media reported.

Police intercepted the driver of a 12-year-old car in Sao Paulo at the spot he most frequently committed infractions, the O Globo daily said on Thursday.

For seven years he had been speeding and running red lights but was not arrested earlier because he never registered the car in his own name.

The paper said the car, worth around $6,500, would be auctioned if the driver, unnamed, did not pay the $1.8 million in fines in 90 days.

  • Dentist

The trip to the dentist was too bad yesterday; Caz had her teeth removed without any problem, although she was a bit groggy after the anaesthetic. She now has the appointment with the orthodontist next month to have her brace fitted, which I believe will be on for 18 months to 2 years, seems a long time to have a chunk of metal or whatever they use to have in your mouth.

  • Weekend Plans

No trip to a university this weekend, so after being out for the last three weekends, this weekend I get the chance to relax and have some time for just me and Rosemary. We are out shopping in the morning followed by a spot of lunch in our favourite restaurant, tomorrow night we are going out for the evening so al in all tomorrow will be a nice day, apart from having to pay for the shopping that is.

Sunday, I am planning having another long bike ride, the same route has last week which will include the 2012 Olympic Mountain Bike area, but after the rain this week it will probably be quite muddy, which should make for more fun. The route is just over 18 miles, 8 miles of which are cross country, am quite looking forward to it.

So it seems a busy weekend ahead, but relaxing than the last 3, come Monday morning I will be ready for a rest.

  • Friday

It’s Friday, which has to be the best day of the working week. It’s been quite a busy week with one thing and another and today will be no different, well up until lunch time anyway. I have an electrical design meeting this morning from 10:00 onwards which shouldn’t last more that a couple of hours I hope. Before that I have to sort out a couple of issues from yesterday, I received one or two phones call from the project leader on one of the projects I am looking after and he raised a number of points that need to be addressed, one is not a problem for me, I will pass that on to the mechanical guys the other will need a bit of investigation just what we need on Friday. But, once the meeting is over I will have very little to do for the rest of the day.
