Good morning people and welcome to Sunday the day of rest and what a beautiful day it is. It’s a glorious day out there, believe me I have just got back after a great two hour bike ride which covered the area where the 2012 Olympic mountain biking will take place and after today’s ride it should be a great setting.

I have a few scrapes and bumps but it was great to get off road and feel the adrenaline rush caused by excitement and a little danger. It was not really very dangerous but a fall while negotiating a steep slope at speed could lead to a painful injury, fortunately I managed to stay on the bike. The route in total is a little over 18miles, 10 miles of which is on road or cycle paths the other 8 miles is purely across country. I really enjoyed it, but will have to wait another week before I can repeat the feat.

I did stop and have a quick chat with another rider who was coming in the opposite direction, and he did have some advice for me, the main point is that I should always take a few tools, a puncture repair kit and a bike pump. He did say that punctures are common going across country and it much easier to repair the puncture than push your bike home 8 miles, which I kind of agree with.
