  • Woman With Pearl Lunch

A Lebanese restaurant owner says he and his wife were having oysters for lunch when she made a stunning discovery -- a cluster of 26 pearls inside an oyster on her plate.

Raymond Salha says the find 10 days ago at his Al-Fanar Restaurant in the southern port city of Tyre was a total surprise. The oyster was stuffed and returned, along with the pearls, to Mr Salha, who plans to keep it at his restaurant.

  • Can’t Be Bothered

I haven’t posted any pictures now for ages, well a couple of weeks at least and then probably a month before that its not that I haven’t been out taking any because I have, but not as many as I usually do. Although I did manage to take a few yesterday but only with my phone. I have take pictures but I haven’t down loaded them yet, and it’s just laziness really I have had the time it’s just I haven’t been bothered to, I have down loaded some on to here and haven’t posted them, don’t know why really but I’ll make an effort and post some today.

  • Emergency Porsche

BERLIN (Reuters) - Emergency patients in the German city of Stuttgart will be rushed to hospital with extra speed and style after the fire brigade added two custom-made luxury Porsche cars to its fleet.

Each Cayenne model, a SUV worth about 70,000 euros, is equipped with a siren which Porsche says can be better heard by drivers and pedestrians and clears the roads faster.

"It was a difficult process; the interior had to be completely changed," Porsche spokesman Heiner von der Laden said on Wednesday.

"We had to equip a standard model with ECG, defibrillator, oxygen supply and other medical apparatus."

Many other German cities use Mercedes and Volkswagen for their emergency medical services. Porsche said its reputation for quality and speed helped it win the deal in Stuttgart, where the company is based.

Porsche executive Thomas Edig said the company does not plan to pursue more business in the medical emergency services sector. Moscow is the only other city to use the prestigious luxury brand as an emergency vehicle, Porsche said.

I wonder if the NHS will be following suit

  • The Cats Home

LONDON (Reuters) - A couple have been reunited with their missing cat after nine years, the RSPCA said on Wednesday. Dixie, a 15-year-old ginger cat, disappeared in 1999 and her owners thought she had been killed by a car.

She was found less than half a mile from her home in Birmingham after a concerned resident rang the animal charity to report a thin and dishevelled cat who had been in the area for a couple of months.

RSPCA Animal Collection Officer Alan Pittaway checked her microchip and confirmed it was Dixie. She was returned to her owners, Alan and Gilly Delaney, within half an hour.

"In 29 years of working for the RSPCA I have never seen anyone so excited and happy as Mrs Delaney," Pittaway said. "It made my day to return Dixie to her owners."

The couple were "overjoyed" to be reunited with their missing cat after so many years.

"Dixie's personality, behaviour and little mannerisms have not changed at all," said Gilly Delaney. "We don't think she has stopped purring since she came back through the door."

The RSPCA hope the story will encourage owners to have their pets microchipped.

  • I Have an Offer

I have had my offer and although very attractive I have asked the agency to go to the company and see we can squeeze another couple of thousand out of them. Although the total package is more than I am on at the moment there is a lot more reasonability than I have at the moment. To tell you the truth, I will accept what they are offering, but I am working on the premise that if you don’t ask you don’t get. They may turn round and say sorry that’s all we are prepared to offer if that the case then I will accept as I have said earlier, even if they say sorry £2000 is out of the question they might raise it a little of course its all about negotiation.

Whatever, happens I will be joining them, hopefully on the 13 October, I will probably hand my notice on Monday and I have to give 4 weeks notice.

  • The Silver Wind

    DSC00054

When I walked down from Fenchurch Street Station passes the Tower of London I was surprised see at cruise ship  (The Silver Wind), moored up along side HMS Belfast. Although it wasn’t one of the largest cruise ships afloat it is still far size and it must have a been a bit of a squeeze to get though Tower Bridge, you can’t actually see HMS Belfast behind as you can see from picture above, I have included another picture taken from further down the river where you can actually make out the bow of HMS Belfast.

  • Peregrine Falcons

On my visit to London yesterday, I walked from Fenchurch Street station to Blackfriars which is where our site office is based. The route down the Thames Walkway passes the Tate Modern and yesterday, the RSPB and a van set up outside on the gallery on the bank of the river. They had a number of scopes set up and they were trained on a pair of Peregrine falcons, which have been nesting on the old chimney, these birds looked very at home and were unconcerned about the number people about.

Of course the side of a building is just a cliff face to them and they is an abundance of food about in the shape of the local pigeons which surprising still hang around the area. I knew that London had a few pairs about, one pair being on Battersea power station but \I hadn’t heard about the pair on the Tate Modern. Unfortunately I only had my phone camera with me, but I doubt that even my long lens would be able to take pictures of them up so far.

  • Miracles Happen

Miracles do happen, after the deserved criticism England have received in the press they finally got they act together last and beat Croatia 4-1 in they own country and young Theo Walcott scored a hat trick. Let’s hope this is not a flash in pan and we perform like this in the future.

  • Many Thanks

Many thanks to all my friends who messaged me yesterday and wished me happy birthday, every message was much appreciated and thank you once again.

I calmed somewhat before I got into London, so in the end it wasn’t too bad, I was just angry about how they decided to spring it to me, despite them knowing the meeting the had been arranged for weeks.

I was still home a the usual time and even managed a piece of birthday cake, which I burnt off when I went swimming, I didn’t swim as far as know, I had built the distance up to 1200 or 1500m but last night I only managed 1000m, at just before the 900m point I got cramp in my calf so after a brief rest and a bit of stretching I carried on but after a few more lengths I started to get cramp again so I cut the session short and got after 1000m, I’ll make up for it on Friday when, I’m at the pool again.
