Rosemary insists on buying the Daily Mail, but for me it the probably the worst paper on the market, even the Sport is better than the Mail. It full of doom and gloom and it totally biased against the Labour Party (although sometimes I can see why). This morning headlines is meant to fill air passengers with confidence ‘Airline Fears Over Ice in Fuel’ I do wish this paper would check they facts before publishing crap like this. The investigation did conclude that ice in the fuel lines did cause the engines to lose power, but his is the first instance recorded that actually caused an aircraft to crash.

During my long career in the army I worked with the RAF and had the opportunity to work closely with suppliers who dealt with aviation fuel and they have never lost an aircraft due to ice in the fuel. Because like all aviation fuel world wide, it contains a chemical, which is commonly know as a fuel system icing inhibitor (FSII) which prevents water collecting in fuel tanks, the fuel is also routinely tested to ensure that no water is in the fuel, this prevents the fuel icing and planes crashing.

I would imagine that this is one off, and the airlines will as a precaution carry out extra checks of all of its aircraft. The Mail did say that this is a ‘Previously Unforeseen Threat’. Once again it shows what crap the paper prints, it hasn’t got a clue about any thing technical it just tries to create fear among the public.
