  • Warm and Humid but Grey

It may be cloudy and grey out there this morning, but it is very humid. I have just got in from my daily bike ride and I can honestly say it was a bit of a struggle this morning, but I am glad to say that I actually did it faster than yesterday, so I am very pleased about that. I am just having a well deserved bottle of water and have done a few stretching exercise but from the feel of my legs I need to do a few more.

Caz has gone swimming yet again, I she also going tonight with me, she it appears that’s she is getting into a exercise routine. She also says that’s she has got lazy (her words not mine) since she no longer as to PE at school. She did say that she misses the exercise and thinks that swimming relaxes her and she can concentrate better on her course work.

  • A Piece of Cake

A large slice of cake made to celebrate the wedding of Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles has been sold for £1,000 at an auction house in Gloucestershire. The nine inch (23cm) square piece was given to Moyra Smith, a cleaner at Clarence House in London, by a royal chef in 1981. The slice is decorated with the royal coat of arms in icing and was preserved in clingfilm.

It comes with a signed thank you letter to Mrs Smith from the royal couple.

Chris Albury, from the Dominic Winter Auction House in South Cerney, said: "We have seen numerous small pieces of official presentation cake slices from this wedding over the years but this piece is altogether on a different scale.

"The decorative icing of the royal coat of arms is very skilled and while there is some cracking and damage it is in remarkably good condition.

"We understand that 23 wedding cakes were officially made and this is most likely one from a single-tier cake sent to the staff at Clarence House.

"Whoever bought it is unlikely to eat it as it will undoubtedly taste stale and be an expensive experiment."

The slice of cake was bought by a private collector from the UK who wanted to remain anonymous.

  • Metropolitan Police

A senior police chief has told those involved in a Metropolitan Police row over alleged racial discrimination to "shut up" and "get on with the job". Asian officer Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur told reporters he had been discriminated against "over a long period" by Met chief Sir Ian Blair. He is taking his claim of racial and religious discrimination to a tribunal.

He told a news conference: "My current case is essentially to do with my treatment at the highest levels of the Met, in particular the discrimination I have been subject to over a long period of time by the present commissioner Sir Ian Blair.
"I'm not seeking massive monetary benefits and I do not have grievances against the whole of the Met, an organisation that I dearly love and admire." He claimed to have been "victimised" since his grievances were made public.

But Deputy Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson said it was inappropriate for the row to be conducted in public. He added the Met would "robustly challenge" Mr Ghaffur's claims

I don’t think Mr Tarique Ghaffur has done himself any favours my making this public announcement, he obviously does have an issue with Sir Ian Blair, but does that need to dealt with in the courts he says he has been discriminated against because of his race and religion. But he is an Assistant commissioner so he hasn’t done too bad for himself of course we have yet to see the full details of case.

But the deputy has got it right when he said in the statement to shut up and get on with the job, does he realise he is damaging not only himself but the police as well when he airs his dirty washing in public.

  • Barack Obama

Will Barack Obama become the most powerful man on earth, only time will tell? But from what I have heard he could bring great change that will affect not only the USA but the rest of world. The time is right for change and he’s seems to be the man to lead that change. But lets hope the racists in America don’t get they way and stop this man from becoming President of the USA.

  • Fitter and Stronger

When I first started my exercise regime some eight weeks ago, (17 July), I really struggled it was hard work and I didn’t fully realise how unfit I had become. I had a route to go on bike that was approximately six miles and I couldn’t even mange that without stopping at least twice. When I got halfway I used to stop for about 10minuts to recover my breath. Now even with the route extended for another 3 miles I never stop and I do it faster than I did the 6 miles. Tomorrow I will extend the route once again; it will be just short of 12 miles.

I still have a long way to go, before reaching goal, I of course realise that I will never again be as fit as I was in the army, and of course I was younger then. But I am very pleased with the progress I have made so far not only am I fitter and stronger I am losing weight it will be a least another 5 to 6 months before I reach my target but once there the challenge will be not to make the same mistakes by stopping the exercise and putting the weight back on, but I have made a commitment to change my life style and I generally achieve what I set out to do.

  • Feeling Refreshed

It’s an early Friday morning and once again it finds me up early, I had a good sleep and feel refreshed. So am I ready for what has become my daily ritual another hour will see me powering own the seafront on my bike (well maybe not powering). It looks very calm out there the tree at the front of the house is barley moving so it should be okay today. It looks grey again though the forecast for warm and sunny today, well there’s still time for it to clear up.
