  • Gold Once Again

One more gold to add to the tally, Christine Ohuruohu has won gold in the 400m final, while Germaine Mason won a silver medal in the high jump, it gets better everyday for Britain.

  • Riding to Gold

Chris Hoy, has once again done his country proud, the Scot clinched the gold medal in the men’s sprint at velodrome his third of the games. But the success just keeps coming for Britain in cycling, Victoria Pendleton has won Britain’s sixth gold on the cycling track with victory in the women’s sprint final.

Chris Hoy has become equalled the record for most gold’s won by a British athlete in one Olympics, Henry Taylor, (whom I am related too) first did the feat in the 1908 games.

  • Lunch Time

The clock as moved on and it now time for a well deserved lunch, and listen to some music on my computer. It’s been a funny morning busy in periods and some a few slack periods where I have been waiting for information and then plotting drawings, I think this afternoon will be pretty much the same.  I have sent quite a few emails and arranged for some work to be carried at BRE in Watford, all that involved was ordering material and scaffold tower to be delivered. The time went quite fast which is always a bonus, there’s nothing worse than time dragging while at work.

  • Banana Splits

I have just seen article about the Banana Splits making a come back, god I can remember watching them when I was at home in the summer holidays. God, I feel old.

  • Written in Stars

Now I may be a bit of a sceptic, but I don’t believe in horoscopes nor in fate or even destiny, I believe that a person through hard work and dedication will make his own destiny but if you read the following news report like me you might start to believe (not really, am still a cynic).

BEIJING (Reuters) - Something fishy is happening at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Put it all down to the stars. Forget training, dedication and determination. An athlete's star sign could be the secret to Olympic gold.

After comparing the birthdates of every Olympic winner since the modern Games began in 1896, British statistician Kenneth Mitchell discovered gold medals really are written in the stars.

He found athletes born in certain months were more likely to thrive in particular events. Mitchell dubbed the phenomenon "The Pisces Effect" (pisces is Latin for fish) after finding that athletes born under the sign received around 30 percent more medals than any other star sign in events like swimming and water polo.

In the history of the Games, the big winners in the overall medals haul were born under the signs of Capricorn, Aquarius and Aries. They boasted a significantly higher number of golds. Checking out the birthdates among the Beijing winners produces some intriguing results.

For fencers looking to deliver a sting in the tail and make it to the podium, Scorpio is the right sign. Two of the three Beijing medallists in the men's individual sabre event were Scorpio, he said.

For pole vaulters charging down the track, it is better to be born under Taurus, the sign of the bull. Any Olympic hopefuls unsure which event to pick can now turn to olympicstarsign.com, check out their birthdate and find which sport would be the perfect astrological fit.

Even Mitchell was surprised by his own findings which he said were conclusive "and I really mean conclusive".

"I am talking of odds against chance of hundreds of thousands to one", he said, explaining the research he undertook after being made redundant from his IT job.

"And just for the record, I know a thing or two about statistics. I have a PhD from Glasgow University on statistical ecology and a further 33 years working on statistical data analysis," he explained on his website.

Explaining his eureka moment with all the zeal of a statistical crusader, he concluded: "Did you know that the distribution of Olympic swimming medallists against the tropical astrological zodiac signs can be almost exactly mapped by a polynomial function of the third degree?

  • GM Crops

I don’t know the views people who read this blog will have on GM food, but Price Charles has made his views very clear he believes that GM crops could cause a global disaster and he as gone to press to air his views. However, the environment minister has challenged the Prince to prove his claim that they could cause the damage he has indicated.

Now I haven’t got a clue either way, but surely it not up to the Prince and opponents of GM to prove that they are dangerous its up the scientists and growers to prove that they are safe. After all we wouldn’t try anything unless we have absolute prove that it’s safe, well I wouldn’t what about you?

  • More Gold

Team GB has won yet another gold, and once again its the aquatic sports that have come up trumps, Paul Goodison has become our latest medal winner in the laser class event in the sailing. We now have a total of 13 gold medals making this our best ever performance this 1920 (I think they said).

Fingers crossed we must be favourites for a few more today.

  • I Will Prevail

I had the official weigh early this week, due to the nurse being away on holiday and once again it’s good news, this week I have managed to lose another 3 pounds. That brings my total weight loss to 19 pounds in just weeks. Am really happy about it, plus with all the exercise I am doing I am definitely feeling a lot fitter and stronger.

I am sure there will hard weeks hard, but being motivated and very determined I will prevail.
