A Soaking and A Gold
@ 2008-08-17 – 08:33:32
I have now returned, I took the shorter route this morning about 6 miles and the weather was dreadful. When I said it was damp out this morning it was a bit of an understatement. It absolutely poured it down and I was soaked, oh well you have to expect to get wet now and again. Good news once again Great Britain's Yngling sailing crew have taken gold in Qingdao. Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson kept ahead of their Dutch rivals to finish first in rough conditions and seal overall victory in their class. Anybody know where the name Yngling comes from, they don’t have some strange names?

Sarcasm Failed Me

Enough of the Olympics for the moment, I am up and about, early as usual. Soon it will time to dress in my very athletic gear and head out on my bike, (don’t worry Wiggins and Hoy are safe) I don’t think I’ll be winning any Olympic titles.
Have you noticed there is always on comedian about, yesterday just as I was finishing my bike ride, one guy stuck his head out of his car window and shouted at the top of his voice ‘the Olympics are that way mate’.
If I had any breath left after managing to get up the hill (I know not very well planned a hill at the finish) I would have replied with something sarcastic, but it felt like my lungs were about give up.
It’s looking a bit damp out there at the moment, but I’ll be ok, I have enough protective clothing I’ll be warm and dry.

Marathan Girl

Not so good news for Paula Radcliffe, the world record holder of the marathon could only manage 23rd place in today’s race (something else I predicted a couple of weeks ago).
I did say, she made (or rather the media) had her excuses before the Olympics even started. But the good news Mara Yamauchi, Britain’s other runner managed to finish in a credible sixth position. Such is the power of the press that I hadn’t even heard of her before today. The press coverage was about Radcliffe and as far as I could make out Yamauchi mentioned once.

Bolting to Victory

Well Michael Phelps has achieved his goal; he has won his eight gold medals at these Olympics. An unbelievable feat and what an accomplishment. I am sure we will see him again in four years time in London.
I managed to catch the final of men’s 100m yesterday afternoon, Usain Bolt (Bolt very well named) destroyed the filed and smashed the world record as he took the title of the fastest man on earth. Didn’t he make it look so easy!

Hat Full of Medals
@ 2008-08-17 – 06:11:42
It seems my predictions about winning a hat full of medals in the cycling came true, with two gold’s, a sliver and two bronze medals we did very well. Hopefully that success will continue today. I know we are guaranteed gold and silver in the women’s pursuit.
If the winds pick up we are sure of winning medals in the sailing it’s just the case of finding out what colour.
