Have just discovered that I have left my lunch at home, which means I will have to pay the exorbitant prices down stairs in the staff canteen or go hungry. As I love my food and can’t wait until tonight to eat, I will have to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and fork out for a sandwich at lunch time.
Normally I’m pretty good and don’t usually forget things perhaps I getting old and my memory is going, of well my lunch is in the fridge so it might be ok for tomorrows lunch.

Hate to say "Yes, probably", but I began to notice in my fifties that my short-term memory was less accurate year by year.
I helped it by starting to make short tick lists for even obvious stuff that used to be "part of normal life".
That may help you, and mine has been worsened by having one significant stroke and a number of TIAs.
