Is anybody having difficulties with the tanker drivers strike? I normally fill up about a every week to 10 days and I use under ¾ of a tank of fuel to get to work a week. I haven’t even thought about filling up the car as yet, however the media is reporting people panic buying, but I have seen no evidence of this. Is the media once again fuelling (sorry no pun intended) public hysteria, it seems that way to me.
Am not a union man and never be a union man, from reading our media it seems the strikers have turned down a pay offer that see them earn over £41,000 a year by 2009, of course the union refute (then again they would) this and have stated this is possible only after overtime. The real figure would be more £36,000 (still not a bad wage) remember by law they can only drive a limited number of hours a day.
Shell who do not employ the drivers have stayed out of the argument, however if Shell contains to lose custom then they main review the contracts of the haulage firms, which would result in the wages of the drivers dropping to zero, when they don’t have any work. Not a pleasant thought!
