Sometimes I despair at the training regime of this company, on the 1-Jan-08 a new edition of the Wiring Regulations came into force. For those who don’t have clue what I am on about don’t worry, it’s not important what the regulations are, just the training courses to bring the engineers and tradesman up speed on the latest regulations.

A senior engineer was tasked to arrange training for everybody who required it. Six months down the line nothing seemed to have been done about it. So being a conscientious engineer I decided to take matters into my own hands and arrange my own training, I submitted the correct forms to the training department, who found and booked me onto a course. Now, before I attend and payment is made the course needs to be authorised by a senior manager.

The senior manager would not authorise the course saying that training is being arranged but no dates have been issued as to when this training will be carried out. The company I work for prides it self on training and educated its employees. But to me it just seems like paying lip service to it aims in the company policy document.

If training is to be arranged for personnel why does a senior engineer have to do it, we have a training department dedicated to doing just that. What’s more galling is that the engineer tasked is about as much good as the following.

  1. Concrete parachute
  2. Chocolate kettle
  3. Ash tray on a motor bike.

Or you could say he’s like a light house in a desert, bright but f*?&king useless.
