The Cats Present

by 359Rabbit @ 2008-05-17 - 19:07:56

My cat as just brought us a most lovely present (I think not), a young fledgling starling, but bloody cats, she as been sat on the table for the last weeks watching and squeaking at the birds in the garden, today she got out and did what cats do, killed.

I will try and keep her in until the rest ahave flown the nest, but she gets out through the fan light window and with the weather being so warm I can't have the windows closed all the time. Oh and she does ahve a bell on her colllar, but but gets her prey.

Oh, how depressing...we've got blue tits using our nest box and they're in and out all day long now...saw a squirrel eyeing up the box today and gave him a loud shock...he departed hastily...cat's are a bane with little birds...of the six possible blue tit fledglings that may be in the nest, only one or two they reckon will survive. There's a lot of local cats around here...I'd have a cat for a rug if it killed ours...:-/ Great big hugs..XXX

I have always felt so sorry for cats having those bells around their collar  It can't be nice to always have to listen to that sound!

I am not too fond of our cats "gifts" either but it is a natural thing for them to hunt after all so, and we can't change that. I am happy for every mouse and bird I can rescue though. :)

I love cats, but their habit of needing to kill every birdie they see is horrible. I don't mind them killing and eating the pigeons as they are a pest, but it makes me very sad if they get a song bird.

The bell thing doesn't really work well as they learn to slither along so it doesn't ring. But ours also have bright fluorescent collars which makes them more visible to their prey and that helps a little.
