I didn’t watch the documentary last night but I have read the summary this morning. Any abduction is sad but for it to involve a young child must be even worse. The distress that her parents have been going through for over a year must be mind numbing.

I would think that the hate mail they have received must make it even more galling. I hope that before long they are reunited.

However, there are a number of points that I would like to raise, firstly the coverage that this has received in the press. A number of our national newspapers in particular the ‘Daily Mail’ has taken great delight in running the Portuguese police down, blaming them for her going missing and not finding her. They may have done things wrong, and have made mistakes, but they are doing the best they can and stories like those printed in the Daily mail do not help the situation.

What the Daily Mail has constantly failed to mention is this, if the children had not been left alone we would not be in this situation, what responsible parent leaves three children at home ALONE. Please think about that Mr Editor before blaming anybody else but the parents.

History Lesson

by 359Rabbit @ 2008-05-01 - 09:57:13

On this day in 1707, The Act of Union took effect and England and Scotland became united under the new union flag The Scottish and English Parliaments merged to become the Parliament of Great Britain, based in Westminster, London.

It wasn’t until 1801 that Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Ireland were formally joined under the Act of Union to create the United Kingdom in 1801.

The Irish parliament in Dublin was dissolved. Despite the Union, Catholics were still unable to vote at general elections or to hold parliamentary and most public offices.

Election Day

by 359Rabbit @ 2008-05-01 - 07:45:27

Election day, the polling stations for the local elections are now open, cast your vote for the least inept candidate. The major election toady will be for London mayor, a close one between the incumbent Mayor, Ken (Red) Livingstone and Boris (the buffoon) Johnson.

I must say that in the last few weeks I have to come to like Boris better very day, he always seems to have something witty to say.

Brian Paddock (lib dems and ex copper) only seems to have one issue and that’s tackling crime, he couldn’t do it when he was a senior police officer so what’s makes him think he can do any better as mayor of London. I like him but I don’t think he has enough experience to become mayor.

I think Ken will be best for the job but as I don’t live in London I don’t get a vote, even though I spend a lot of my live working in London and this will effect me, so all you Londoners out there reading this please vote for Ken!

May Day

by 359Rabbit @ 2008-05-01 - 07:31:43

Welcome to May; pinch, punch the first of the month and all that. Lets hope the weather improves and it behaves like the spring, I want to see more sun and less rain.

All around the world people will be celebrating May Day, parades and carnivals every where except Britain, we have to wait until Monday. Oh well at least we do get a day eventually.

Chelsea are through the Champions League final after beating Liverpool last, after 90 minutes the game was still ties, but a penalty by Frank Lampard and a strike by Dider Drogba helped Chelsea to a 3-2 win on the night. They will now play Manchester United in the final, in Moscow on 21-May.
