Once again the Government is showing contempt for its ex-service man. In this case a Ghurkha who has served 15 years in the British army is to be deported. Since 1997 any Ghurkha who served in the army is entitled to stay in Britain when he retires, but before that then he must apply to become a resident of this country.
Purna Gurung, 55, also faces a huge medical bill after his wife collapsed and remained in a diabetic coma for 10 days. She is still in hospital. This bill however, has been paid for by a member generous member of the public.
Ghurkhas who have served in the British army should not have to apply to stay in the country; they have served in the army for over 200 years and between them have been awarded 13 Victoria Crosses.
The Ghurkhas are seeking a review of this and there are a number of MP’s on their side, it was only recently that their actually received equal pay, before they only received a fraction of what other members of the British army received, their pension rights were also different.
So it’s not only this Government who should contempt for these brave and dedicated soldiers, but previous Governments have shown the same contempt. We allow foreign nationals to come and stay in this country give free housing and pay them for doing nothing, while ex members of the armed forces are deported, what type of people are we, this Government should hang its head in shame.
