The race is on, the election for the Mayor of London will take place on the 1st May, and with 10 candidates running it’s sure to be close run contest. The 3 main candidates, Ken Livingstone, Boris Johnson and Brian Paddick are out on the streets meeting the people and campaigning like there’s no tomorrow. But for two of them there will be no tomorrow.

Although I don’t live in London and therefore will not a get a vote, I will be working in London so who ever is elected will have an influence upon my life. I must admit I do like Ken I believe he has done a lot for London and should continue in the job, Boris I am sure is an intelligent man, but he just comes across as some private school buffoon, I think he was chosen by the Tories because of his charisma but I don’t think he his right for London. Now Brian Paddick on the other might be good for London, his only problem his is lack of politic experience, the former senior police officer has promised to reduce crime. Now I think that’s a little ironic considering that when he was a serving officer crime rates kept rising, and have only started to fall since he retired. Still I think he would be a breath of fresh air for the capital.

Only time will tell, public transport and congestion charging are probably the main issues, but other issues such as affordable housing and a skill shortage will also provide debate between the candidates. I actually enjoy watching the exchangers between the 3 main candidates they are sometimes quite amusing for politicians.
