The budget has done nobody ant favours, I don’t smoke, and neither do I drink to excess therefore that part of the budget will not affect me. My stepdaughter will have left school for university before the increase in family allowance takes effect so that will not affect me either.
That only leaves car tax, really. I drive a nice family car, Ford Focus. He is going to increase the car tax on that from £135 (I think I paid last year) to £425 per year. The large 4 x 4 and sports cars will have to pay £950, this I think will cause some problems, farmers and a small number of people who live in areas where access is difficult require 4 x 4 vehicles this tax is unfair to them. However, the idiots who live in inner cities and own these large and unnecessary vehicles deserve to pay far more. These are the ones who pollute who cities.
The increase on duty on alcohol will not deter binge drinking; 4p on a pint is nothing. Consider this a lot of binge drinker’s move around from pub to pub. However, the cost difference between pubs for a drink maybe 10p or even 20p per pint. So the increase of a pint by 4p will not make any difference whatever. The Chancellor is paying lip service to the problem of binge drinking while collecting revenue. If he was serious about binge drinking then the price of a drink would have been increased dramatically. Wine increasing by 14p and spirits rising by a meagre 55p is nothing and will not have any effect on the problem of binge drinking.
